Diving Officer's Report
I am
well pleased. Things have definitely
improved. I have seen lots of examples of
good marshalling and people making the
effort to follow all the suggestions that
we have been making. Unfortunately,
virtually a year since our last
‘incident’, there was news from
Lossiemouth of a rapid ascent by one of
our members. It sounded like an avoidable
situation involving incorrect weighting.
If you are trying out new equipment or
configurations, it is probably better to
do so in a sheltered water site like
Capernwray than out at sea.
We have evidently not been doing too well
with our Lifeguard-ing and the pool
manager has been expressing concerns.
Please check whether you are on the rota
and then make sure, when it is your turn,
that you arrive promptly to be installed
by the pool at 8.00p.m. They want us
‘appropriately dressed’ and looking alert
at all times. The lifeguard must not leave
until the last person has left the pool.
Your chairman, Pete, has full details of
the manager’s requirements.
It was very sad to hear of a death at
Stoney this week. I only hope that the
circumstances of the death will be
published so that other divers can learn
from the accident and take steps to avoid
a repeat.
Could I ask that any members who are going
on the Scapa trip to do as Sarah has
suggested and make sure that all dive gear
is working properly, that you have spare
essentials and that every person has a
delayed smb and reel?
Thanks
Kate Falkingham, DO

Life Guard Problems
Lifeguard needs to be at the pool on time,
easily identified, alert and properly
dressed (ie clothing you would jump in the
pool with). Discussion around T shirt
saying lifeguard?
