Diving Officer's Report
Following some questions about my comments on dive sheets at the AGM I would like to suggest that it is only compulsory to hand in dive sheets for club trips. Officially a ‘club trip’ is one that has been organised by the club or one in which club equipment is being used. We are responsible for people on club trips and the BSAC 3rd party insurance covers those. The sheets might be needed to refer to if there were an incident, they provide information that could be needed if e.g. a log book were stolen, they are the club’s records. It is important for us to have a record of all club trips. In the past the instructors using sites like Capernwray with trainees have been extremely good at handing in sheets. We are also pretty good when it comes to St Abbs, the Clyde, Scapa etc. I want 100% on all club trips. Over and above that – whether it’s just friends going for a quick dip or holiday diving, it’s up to you. Remember, if you go for a dip, if you use any club stuff at all, even just an air fill, it’s a ‘club trip’ and you must do a sheet. You can send me them electronically if you prefer. Just DO THEM.
