Matters Arising

Equipment Officer Resignation
Andy Briggs still has an issue with kit not being tidied away. Weight belts and weights being lest at the pool side. Dust caps not being put on regs. BC not being inflated.

Andy has given the Club time to rectify the situation before he stands down.

Ray is going to talk to instructors about putting kit away properly. All trainees need to be taught the correct way to store the kit. Instructors to be with students at all times

All new trainees should have dry training on correct storage of kit.

Dive planning and Marshalling
Andy Eastwood to distribute dive leader notes to committee members to look at
.

3.

Membership Secretary

Try dives doing well. Snorkel members needs pushing as the numbers are declining. Stewart Leahy to do some promotion work.

Diving Officer's Report

My apologies for not being at tonight’s meeting. Nothing much to report. I would like to thank Andy Eastwood for his help with pool training and for going to the trouble of researching diver recall issues as well as looking at clubs who have written up lengthy Risk Analyses. While we put our faith in our much-loved skippers, BSAC clubs have probably reached a stage of having to take greater responsibility for safety issues. One example that was raised was of diver recall. None of the skippers that we use ever mention what they would do if they had to recall divers in the case of an emergency. It is possible to use dynamite fishing techniques to bring divers to the surface and maybe we should keep some of the thunder flashes that it is possible to buy on the Internet. We should perhaps also request that each skipper runs through safety issues at the beginning of a dive trip and liaises very closely with the Dive Marshall regarding possible risks.

I would hate our well-loved skippers to think that we don’t trust them but am sure that they are as painfully aware of possible litigation issues as we are. The fact is we must all do everything we possibly can to ensure that all dives are safe as well as enjoyable.

Thank you Ray for organising the Loch Fyne weekend. The scallops were delicious.
