Diving Officer's Report

Not much to report at this time of year. I would like to say how much I enjoyed the Celebration Dinner and I’m sure everyone else did too. Many, many thanks to everyone who helped to organise it and particularly Diane, Helen and Sarah. I think they will be sleeping better now it’s all over.

Martyn Farr did a good job of trying to speak above the noise and I hope some of our members might be inspired to give his Cavern Diving Course a try. Whether you are interested in caves or not, his course gives lots of excellent information about techniques which are useful for wreck diving, minimum visibility and anywhere where good buoyancy is important. I hope some more people might have a go so that I have someone to go cave-diving with in the future.

This week I’m off to Borneo to explore the jungle and dive Sipadan and Mabul.

Will report back next month.

Kate Falkingham, Diving Officer

2 incidents where the SOS O2 kits have burst into flames. Andy Briggs is going to speak to the company and see what the procedure will be. Andy to make a decision and to buy two new O2 kits if necessary up to £700 can be spent. Helen is going to contact BSAC and see what they say.

Compressor Training

A new rota is needed for the compressor and training will be provided for those who volunteer. Training will include compressor training and training to work downstairs. Jill is going to find out who is interested and put a rota together.

Lifeguard Duty

More people are needed for lifeguard duty. Need to find more volunteers and arrange some training if necessary. The rota needs to be co-ordinated with compressor rota to avoid collision of duty.
