Minutes from Meeting
 

1.

Apologies

  • Trish Holmes, Kate Falkingham, Chris Hall
  • All other committee members present
  • Also present, Martin Charlesworth, Helen Briggs
     

2.

Matters Arising

  • See point 16 below regarding Sports Centre information
  • The compressor is still waiting to be re-installed
  • All instructors to reconfirm their required training to Dave Colley
  • Dave Colley to re-forward the new dive marshalling sheet
  • Dive Marshalling - Pete Edwards distributed the British Diving Safety Group ‘Pre-Dive Check List’.  As this is now well accepted by all agencies, it was suggested that we simply encompass these guidelines.  Stewart Leahy to look at linking to www.mcga.gov.uk documents.  Pete to speak to Kate regarding distributing these flyers to all Dive Marshalls.
  • Martin Charlesworth confirmed that all branch officers should be members of BSAC.  This is due to Data Protection and Third Party Liability implications.

Diving Officer's Report

  • No report
     

5.

Training Officers Report

  • Lots of new members and lots of pool training.
  • Dave, Kate, Andy and Ray attempted the Advanced Divers Exam!
  • Dave Kate, Andy, Ray and Pete completed the Practical Rescue Assessment for the Advanced Diver. 
  • 3rd April 2004 – Dive Planning and Marshalling Course being run – contact Dave Colley - £52.00
  • Dave Colley stated his frustration at trainees not contacting him when they will not be able to attend – the onus is on the trainees to contact Dave or their nominated pool instructor when they will not be attending

Treasurer's Report

  • February – Surplus of £273.86
  • Pool hire paid up till December 2003
     

7.

Equipment Officer's Report

  • Andy will liaise with Phil to get a full risk assessment for the compressor and will pass to Ray
  • The Oxygen Kit was used this weekend and will be refilled as soon as possible (not BSAC18 incident)
  • Bear Divers are selling off open water BC’s and complete Regs (fully serviced) at a cost of £250 per set – Andy will speak to Bear Divers and will e-mail a proposal as soon as possible

  • New member information pack – Helen Briggs has prepared an initial draft of this pack – Helen will distribute this to all committee members and all committee members and Martin Charlesworth to reply with appropriate feedback

Area Coach Comment (Martin Charlesworth)

  • Martin – introduced himself and stressed that he is available to help if we need him
  • MC also reminded that he is a member of this branch
  • MC stated that he will try to provide help and guidance whenever he identifies potential areas that could result in problems for the club

Distribution of Minutes - Andy Waugh

  • Andy Booth will ensure a copy of the committee meeting minutes will be available on the door and at the pub.

BSAC18 50th Celebrations - Andy Waugh

Mentorship within the training programme - Neil Thackery

  • Neil had made comments suggesting improvements for the training structure

16.

Hire arrangements for the Sports Centre – All

  • Pete Edwards met with Sarah Flanaghan (Operations Manager, Sports Centre) today regarding the long term hire agreements at the pool.  SF stated that we did not have a hire agreement in place.  SF also stated that we should be paying £90.00 per hour and £15 per room.
    • SF stated that these costs should stand.  Also, that these figures do not include an allowance for equipment or compressor
    • From 1st May 2004, SF offered that we could hire rooms at £15 per room and the pool at £62 per session.  SF has also agreed to allowing storage of equipment and re-installation of the compressor dependant on receipt of risk assessments and training for club members in these areas.  This offer is fixed until April 2005.
  • Martin Charlesworth will investigate whether we should be paying VAT on these amounts and will advise accordingly – MC to report to Richard Robinson as soon as possible.
