Diving Officer's
Report
Not a
lot to report this month. Less sea trips at this time of year but, if
you do dive anywhere, make sure your equipment is up to it. Free-flows
are very unpleasant and can cause panic in an inexperienced diver.
Poor Pete found that it only takes a demonstration of dv retrieval to
cause the jacuzzi effect. Get your equipment serviced and ask then, if
you’re not sure, whether it is environmentally sealed and can cope
with cold water. Some regs are only suited to warm-water diving. There
are various steps you can take to guard against free-flows, ask your
instructor if you want advice.
I was
glad to see in Diver mag that they have decided that St Abbs is safe
for training dives, even our friend the harbourmaster was singing its
praises for diving. Nice to know he does want us there!
Don’t
forget to get your name down on the lists if you want to go on any of
this year’s trips – they will fill up very quickly.
Happy
diving!
Kate Falkingham, D.O.
