Matters Arising

Sports Centre Emergency Point (see last months minutes)

  • Sarah Flanaghan spoke with S Leahy this evening on the phone and SCL and P Edwards met with her before the meeting.  1)  SF was chasing the risk assessment and SCL pointed out that we were still waiting for the Sports Centre risk assessment for the area's in question prior to BSAC18 preparing theirs.  SF accepted that she hadn't yet sent these and will forward them as soon as they are available.  2) The compressor needs moving during the 1 month pool shutdown period (23rd Dec - 26th Jan)  SCL PE and SF visited the old kit area and SF agreed for this area to be the temporary home for the compressor.  SF also requested that we remove the old cylinder cage, cabinet and old dive equipment.  A. Briggs to arrange all this for the shut down date.

Diving Officer's Report

Not much to report this month. Sadly there have been three more diving-related deaths reported in “Diver” magazine, one of them a man from Huddersfield. I do not know how we, as a club, can do more to ensure the safety of our divers. We are getting into the habit of asking for dive times when diving off boats and recording time in, and out, of the water. In time we will build up a folder of  dive sites and their hazards which can be taken on trips. This will form part of our ‘risk assessment’. The rest is up to each diver to ensure that they practise their skills, keep their equipment serviced and don’t dive unless it is safe and right to do so. It was very interesting when I recently acted as our Dive Marshall at Capernwray and could observe all the activities of other divers. It was quite an eye-opener! On behalf of our club I would like to pass on our best wishes to one of our latest trainees, Diane Roberts, who has been having surgery and hospital treatment. We hope she will make a full recovery and be able to continue with her training.

Happy Christmas everyone and safe diving in 2004.

Kate

Training Officers Report

  • Neil, Dianne, Ian and Chris have passed their exams and have experienced open water
  • 1 new enquiry for a try-a-dive

6.

Treasurer's Report

  • For the month of November, balance of minus £201.13 (solicitors bill, equipment servicing, etc)...net balance for the year 257.62
  • There are still two monthly pool bills to go out
  • Garage - bill paid, RR visited solicitors, - the solicitor's secretary stated that the forms have to have the trustees named.  We now have copies of the land registry document and a copy of the transfer document.  The deed of appointment has been retained at the land registry.  RR feels that the solicitor has not performed an excellent service and will not use him again..

Equipment Officer's Report

  • The old equipment room is being cleared out this Saturday and all volunteers are welcome.
  • The compressor cage is on hold pending the move and re-installation
  • There will be another training session organised once the compressor has been re-installed
  • There have been no reports of equipment failures recently (with the exception of the clean air filter)
  • When the compressor is re-installed, it may need a new isolator fixing and A.Briggs will speak to Steve Hepworth to arrange to uninstall the compressor urgently.
  • A Briggs will name a date and S Leahy will circulate to gain volunteers (Steve Hill has equipment that will lift the compressor and A Briggs has a trolley that will provide the motion)
